ThriveMore, a not-for-profit senior living provider, has announced plans for a new life plan community in New Bern, North Carolina. The Brice Pointe community will offer 152 independent living apartments, 52 villas and cottages, and 18 apartments for assisted living, memory care, and long-term nursing care. This development reflects ThriveMore’s commitment to addressing the diverse needs of older adults in the region, providing a continuum of care options within a single community.
Located on a 70-acre campus overlooking Carolina Lake, Brice Pointe will feature amenities such as walking trails, outdoor gathering spaces, and access to golf, pickleball, and tennis courts. The community is designed to meet the needs of older adults in the eastern North Carolina region, offering a blend of recreational and wellness opportunities in a scenic setting. The project is currently in the conversion phase, allowing “priority list members” to reserve units with a 10% deposit. The community is scheduled to open in 2030, marking a significant addition to the area’s senior living options.
North Carolina Development Advances
In addition to Brice Pointe, other senior living projects are progressing across the country. Edgemark Development has proposed a new senior living community in Spring Valley, Nevada, known as Desert Hills Senior Living. This 160-unit community will span four buildings and encompass over 204,000 square feet, offering independent living, assisted living, and memory care. Desert Hills will include 85 independent living units, 40 one-bedroom units, and 45 two-bedroom units, along with 50 assisted living units.
A total of 25 units will be designated for memory care, featuring studio and one-bedroom layouts. The project also includes 67,000 square feet of outdoor space with multiple courtyards, a pool and spa, cabana area, bistro patio, and grilling station. Plans were submitted in 2020 and approved in 2022, with architectural details highlighting varying rooflines, decorative metal rails, and balconies.
In Florida, McDowell Housing Partners and Miami Jewish Health have opened a $139.4 million affordable housing community in Broward County. The Douglas Gardens Senior Health and Living development includes 726 affordable housing units for those 55 and older, alongside a 15,000-square-foot medical center. The medical center, operated by Miami Jewish Health’s Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), offers services such as adult daycare, rehabilitation, and wellness offerings. Located on the final portion of the 14-acre Miami Jewish Health campus in Pembroke Pines, the project addresses the growing need for affordable senior housing and full healthcare services in the area.
Florida Community Offers Affordable Housing, Medical Care
The Douglas Gardens community features three layouts for older adults 55 and up, catering to incomes ranging between 30% and 100% of the area’s median income. Units incorporate accessible design features, ensuring inclusivity for residents with varying mobility needs. The development is a collaboration between McDowell Housing Partners and Miami Jewish Health, with Reprtwar Architecture and Design as the architect and MHP-ANF Group Construction as the general contractor. This project exemplifies the integration of affordable housing with essential healthcare services, enhancing the quality of life for seniors in Broward County.
Ohio Memory Care Community Under Construction
In Ohio, Calson Management has started construction on the Inspiration Memory Care community in Dublin. This one-story community will include 35,089 square feet of space on a 1.63-acre property, featuring private and shared suites. Designed to serve older adults living with dementia and cognitive change, Inspiration Memory Care is part of the Linden Collection and will serve as a “sister community” to other Linden developments.
Jason Reyes, principal at Calson Management, emphasized the community’s commitment to providing compassionate memory care and making a real difference for local families. The project, approved in 2022, marks the first phase of a larger senior living development, with plans for assisted living also underway. CareStone Builders is the general contractor, and Clason Management will serve as the operator.
Additionally, Oasis Senior Living has opened a new community in Vienna Township, Michigan, known as The Oasis of Clio. This development includes three buildings with 20 units each, featuring a salon and break room. Meanwhile, the nonprofit continuing care retirement community Duncaster has announced plans to expand with 91 new apartment units. These projects, along with others like the independent living villas at Shepherd of The Valley’s Salem, Ohio campus, highlight the ongoing efforts to meet the growing demand for senior living options across the United States.
